Watch Mac DeMarco’s Goofy, Sun-Dappled ‘This Old Dog’ Video
Mac DeMarco‘s playful new video for “This Old Dog” is filled with actors wearing wolfish, theatrical canine masks. The song will appear on DeMarco’s This Old Dog album, which is slated for a May 5th release.
DeMarco directed his latest clip, weaving together footage of masked characters as they enjoy daily life in Los Angeles: admiring a statue of Bruce Lee, hiking, kissing and soaking up the sun. As the images slide by, DeMarco and his band play pleasant, polished rock in the background.
The music is lolling and unhurried, with gentle spurts of guitar and a dragging beat. DeMarco sings lightly but offers promises of eternal commitment: “As long as my heart’s beating in my chest/ This old dog ain’t about to forget.”
The singer/songwriter described the aim of his video in a statement. “A devoted dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love,” DeMarco wrote. “Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan. As the boy grows older and comes to a crossroad, the dog once again comes back into his life to remind him of his true self.”
Following This Old Dog‘s release in May, DeMarco will embark on a lengthy tour through North America and Europe.
