Watch James Corden, Victoria Beckham Do Spice Girls Carpool Karaoke
James Corden falls in love with a plastic Victoria Beckham in spoof of 1987 romantic comedy Mannequin from Thursday’s Late Late Show.
Described in a hilariously Eighties-styled voice-over as “the reboot no one asked for,” the updated Mannequin takes place on Corden’s modern-day set. “He was a talk show host,” Watts explains. “And she was a mannequin who turned his world upside down. To everyone else, he’s a disaster. The world couldn’t understand their love.”
Early on, Corden takes offense when a co-worker calls Beckham “a dummy.” In his office, with his framed Rolling Stone cover hanging on the wall, the host dramatically fires back, “Do not speak to her that way! She taught me how to laugh.”
Ultimately, Beckham decides she wants to live amongst other mannequins, so Corden helps her escape. In their car trip get-away, the duo even perform their own “Carpool Karaoke” to Spice Girls’ 1997 hit “Spice Up Your Life” – except, in reality, Corden’s the only one singing.
The former Broadway star is reimagining the reach of late-night TV – one car ride at a time.
