John Prine Plots Headlining 2017 Fall Tour
John Prine has announced a fall tour and is taking steps to avoid ticket scalpers by teaming with Ticketmaster’s “Verified Fan” program. The legendary singer, who will release his first-ever songbook John Prine Beyond Words this week, has set up pre-registering system to ensure that fans, not scalpers, secure tickets for the upcoming shows. The fall tour dates currently run from early September to mid-December. Itinerary and pre-sale dates appear below.
Prine, who earned PEN New England’s Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence Award last July, an honor also bestowed upon Tom Waits and previously given to Chuck Berry and Leonard Cohen, released the excellent duets LP, For Better, or Worse, in 2016. The album teamed him with Miranda Lambert, Lee Ann Womack and his missus, Fiona Prine, among others. The 70-year-old writer of such folk-Americana classics as “Sam Stone,” “Angel From Montgomery,” and “Paradise,” also reached the top of the country charts in 1998 with George Strait’s version of “I Just Want to Dance With You,” which Prine penned with Roger Cook.
The John Prine Beyond Words songbook also includes more than 100 photos from the songwriter’s personal collection, as well as handwritten lyrics and commentary tracing the evolution of the songs. It will be officially released on Tuesday and is available at Prine’s website.
