Watch Thor Face Off Against Incredible Hulk in First ‘Ragnarok’ Trailer
After sitting out the Civil War, Thor soars back into action in the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, the third film centered around Marvel‘s god of thunder.
As suggested by the Norse apocalyptic event mentioned in the title, the trailer finds Thor’s homeland of Asgard leveled and his beloved hammer Mjölnir destroyed by new villain Hela, devilishly played by Cate Blanchett, all while Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” rages in the background.
The trailer also introduces two new characters – Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, one of the Elders of the Universe – as well as the return of Thor’s meddlesome and apparently indestructible adopted brother Loki, played again by Tom Hiddleston.
However, the highlight of the teaser comes in the closing seconds, when Thor is forced to put his gladiatorial skills to work against a surprise opponent, the Incredible Hulk. “Yes!,” Thor exclaims. “We know each other! He’s a friend from work.” Unfortunately, Hulk, in his enraged state, doesn’t share his buddy’s enthusiasm and ultimately attacks him.
The trailer also hints at a stylistic shift in the Thor series in the hands of What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi, who instills some comedic flare into the usually dramatic proceedings.
Following the May 5th arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok is next on the Marvel docket, with the blockbuster hitting theaters November 3rd.
