See Rob Gronkowski Crash Sean Spicer’s White House Briefing
The New England Patriots made their trip to the White House on Wednesday to celebrate their Super Bowl LI victory over the Atlanta Falcons with Donald Trump. While a number of Patriots decided to skip the event for various reasons – Martellus Bennett made it clear he doesn’t “support the guy that’s in the house,” whereas Tom Brady cited “personal family matters” for not visiting his “friend” – Rob Gronkowski didn’t pass up on the opportunity to go take a trip to Washington D.C. to hang with the President of the United States for the second time in his career.
And while he was there, Gronkowski managed to become the center of attention, stealing the show long before the official ceremony began by crashing Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s briefing to see if he needed any help. Spicer, probably surprised to see Gronkowski treating the White House like his own home, laughed before saying “I think I got this, but thank you.” When Gronk asked him if he was sure, Spicer replied, “Maybe.”Spicer, who happens to be a big Patriots fan, took a couple of seconds to gather his thoughts once Gronkowski left the room before admitting, “That was cool.”
The team’s visit to the White House was surrounded in controversy coming in the form of tweets and interviews where players including Bennett, Chris Long and Dont’a Hightower said they’d be skipping the ceremony. In an even stranger turn of events, the visit comes on the same day Gronkowski’s former teammate, Aaron Hernandez, was found dead in his prison cell of an apparent suicide by hanging.
