Hear Chainsmokers, Florida Georgia Line’s Atmospheric New Song
Florida Georgia Line‘s long-anticipated collaboration with electronic duo the Chainsmokers‘ latest album was released overnight. The anthemic electro-pop track “Last Day Alive” closes the 2017 Grammy winners’ new album Memories. . . Do Not Open, also available today.
A triumphant paean to living in the moment, “Last Day Alive” opens with stacked Bon Iver-like auto-tuned harmonies from FGL’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, before moving into isolated, vulnerable vocals and Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall’s signature pulsing synth drops.
“[Chainsmokers] gave us a call and it kind of had to be done within 48 hours,” FGL’s Brian Kelley told Rolling Stone Country in March. “So we spent all day and all night on this track and just put everything in it like we always do.”
Never ones to shy away from incorporating a diverse array of elements into the genre, FGL invited hip-hop star Nelly to take a verse on the remix of “Cruise,” off 2013’s Here’s to the Good Times. . . This Is How We Roll, and returned the favor by appearing on “Walk Away” from Nelly’s 2013 album M.O. Their latest album Dig Your Roots features reggae royalty Ziggy Marley on “Life Is a Honeymoon” and Nineties boy band Backstreet Boys on “God, Your Mama, and Me,” which was one of the more memorable performances from the 52nd ACM Awards on April 2nd.
The pair is currently on extending their Dig Your Roots Tour, which pulls in to Sioux City, South Dakota, on April 20th.
Florida Georgia Line and Backstreet Boys perform “God, Your Mama and Me” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” at the ACM Awards.
