Watch Lena Dunham, ‘Girls’ Cast Spoof ‘The Golden Girls’ on ‘Kimmel’
The sixth and final season of HBO’s Girls is coming to a close, but Lena Dunham offered the show’s avid fans some amusing bonus content – and a grain of hope for a possible cast reunion – in the form of a Golden Girls-styled reboot set in 2067. The humorous segment aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday.
All the characters’ signature mannerisms remain intact four decades from now. Jemima Kirke hobbles into the kitchen with a freshly purchased grocery bag full of cigarettes, while Zosia Mamet, hair in curlers and walker at the ready, still sprinkles “like” in between words and tries to keep up with her friends’ active septuagenarian sex lives. Dunham is quick to talk about her writing career and correct her friends for not using “woke terms.”
Allison Williams’ vanity on Girls makes her the easiest to lampoon in the 2067 version. She sweeps on screen to thank her friends for celebrating a her 63rd birthday, her divorce and an impending knee surgery. Kirke debunks each lie one at a time: “You’re 77 years old. You’ve been married eight times. And you’re having surgery in and around your face.”
Kimmel makes a cameo in the skit as “Officer Sausage,” a male stripper Kirke invites to the party. In a plot twist, he also turns out to be the son of Dunham’s character.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dunham likened ending Girls to “sort of breaking up of a family.” “But,” she added, “it’s also one of the most inspiring creative experiences that you can have.”
