Fetty Wap Rival Arrested For Aggravated Assault in New Jersey Shooting
Update: Paterson, New Jersey police have arrested a suspect believed to have shot three people in an altercation outside of a 24-hour deli, TMZ reports. Raheem Thomas posted a picture of himself wearing Fetty Wap‘s stolen “1738” chain, which allegedly started the altercation on Sunday. According to TMZ, Thomas is a longtime “rival” of Wap’s. Thomas denies robbing the rapper.
Fetty Wap was connected to the shooting in South Paterson, New Jersey, USA Today reports. The shooting occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday. The rapper, real name Willie Maxwell, was not injured, according to law enforcement.
Paterson Deputy Police Chief Troy Oswald confirmed that Fetty Wap and several of the rapper’s friends were involved in the altercation, though none are considered suspects in either the shooting or a robbery that occurred during the incident.
Authorities didn’t reveal the victims’ connection to the “Trap Queen” star or any details of the dispute.
City Police Director Jerry Speziale explained the dispute began inside the deli when “a group that included Willie Maxwell (Fetty Wap) became involved in a heated altercation with another group that entered the deli a short time after Maxwell’s arrival,” NJ.com reports. According to Speziale’s statement, “a fight broke out inside the deli with one male victim struck with a firearm,” leading to a further altercation in the street, where the three injured men were struck.
Raheem Thomas was arrested Monday without incident and charged with aggravated assault and three weapons possession offenses. Police did not specify which group Thomas was with or whether they would pursue further charges.
Fetty recently released a pair of new songs, “Way You Are” and “Flip Phone,” ahead of his second official LP, King Zoo, due out in 2017.
