Floyd Mayweather ‘Officially Out of Retirement for Conor McGregor’ Match
With all the back and forth that’s been going on between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather over the last few months, it’s hard to tell if a fight between them will ever materialize. It doesn’t help that UFC president Dana White recently chimed in by saying “no deal is even close to being done” following an ESPN report last month about how the two sides were making progress. At this point, it’s basically been a big game of cat and mouse.
Now it looks as if Mayweather is hoping to put an end to all of the drama by setting the record straight. During one of his stops in his tour around the United Kingdom over the weekend, the boxing legend made the announcement everyone has been waiting for by saying he’s officially coming out of retirement just to fight McGregor. He then put pressure on the UFC superstar to get a deal done with the UFC so they can fight each other in June.
“I don’t want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC,” Mayweather continued. “Sign the paper with the UFC so you can fight me in June. Simple and plain. Let’s fight in June. You’re the B side, I’m the A side. We’re not here to cry about money. I’m tired of all this crying about money and talking about you want to fight. You blowing smoke up everybody’s ass. If you want to fight, sign the paperwork. Let’s do it.”
This latest verbal attack comes a few days after Mayweather called McGregor a “bitch” and said he’d type up a contract that night and fax it over to McGregor for him to sign it. McGregor has yet to respond publicly, but it probably has something to do with him taking an extended break for the birth of his first child.
To add to the speculation, sources told FloCombat that T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas – the same place McGregor fought Nate Diaz for the second time – has put a hold on June 10 for a possible fight between McGregor and Mayweather. That certainly doesn’t confirm anything when it comes to whether or not the two sides are actually close to working something out, but there’s no denying people are starting to get excited about the possible superfight again.
