Lynyrd Skynyrd to Headline New Southern Rock Cruise
After hosting their own Simple Man Cruise for eight years, Lynyrd Skynyrd will hit the high seas next January with a different crew. The Southern Rock Cruise sets sail on January 20th, 2018, with Skynyrd headlining a bill that also features 38 Special, Marshall Tucker Band and Molly Hatchet.
The cruise departs from Tampa, Florida, taking fans on a six-day trip that includes stops in Jamaica and Grand Cayman. The Skynyrd show will actually take place on land, with the “Sweet Home Alabama” icons performing during an island barbecue in Montego Bay. The ship itself will host the bulk of the Southern Rock Cruise’s concerts, with the Outlaws, Atlanta Rhythm Section, the Allman Brothers tribute band Live at the Fillmore, Wet Willie, Louisiana’s Leroux, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band and Curt Towne Band rounding up the initial lineup. More bands are expected to join the bill in the coming months.
The Montego Bay performance marks the latest tour addition for Lynyrd Skynyrd, whose schedule remains busy in 2017, even as original member Gary Rossington continues to heal from last year’s heart surgery.
The Southern Rock Cruise is presented by StarVista Live, who also stage the Soul Train, Country Music, 70s Rock and Romance cruises, among others.
Skynyrd wrapped up their Simple Man Cruise in 2014, with the excursion rebranding as the Outlaw Country Cruise the following year. The most recent Outlaw trek included Blackberry Smoke, Steve Earle, Shooter Jennings and Jessi Colter.
