Hear Trace Adkins’ Seductive New Song ‘Something’s Going On’
“Something’s going on,” sings Trace Adkins in his latest offering, “and it sure feels good.” The new song, the title track from Something’s Going On, which is due to be released later this week, is more slow burner than barn burner and one of the best looks yet at Adkins’ sober new worldview.
The tracks released so far for Something’s Going On, Adkins’ first album since entering rehab for alcohol abuse in 2014, have explored some dark territory like coming to terms with sobriety (“Jesus and Jones”) and the lives of war veterans (“Still a Soldier”). “Something’s Going On,” written by Chris Cavanaugh and Mark Stephen Jones, is a fittingly slow and moody love song, but its impressionistic imagery and air of mystery makes it anything but depressive. Adkins, it would seem, is learning to see the world with a clearer focus, and the hopeful kicker in the refrain suggests that he likes what he sees.
Something’s Going On comes out March 31st on Broken Bow Records’ Wheelhouse imprint. Adkins is already on tour in support of the new record and released four prior singles from it, including “Watered Down” and “Lit.”
