See Brent Cobb’s Intense ‘Let the Rain Come Down’ at Sam Phillips Studio
Brent Cobb brings the thunder during a live version of “Let the Rain Come Down,” shot at the Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis last December. The video premieres today on Rolling Stone Country.
“I got a hollow heart, a pocketful of nothing,” he sings, backed by the swampy groove of his three-piece band. It’s a lean, mean performance, stripped free of the female backup harmonies that beef up the song’s studio version and, instead, focused on the punch of Cobb’s voice. Originally released on 2016’s Shine On Rainy Day, “Let the Rain Come Down” has since found its way into most of Cobb’s live sets, blending the sounds of the American South – blues, country and Bible Belt rock – into three and a half minutes.
After attending the ACM Awards and playing the Party for a Cause festival this weekend, Cobb will kick off the busiest spring of his solo career, sharing gigs with Jamey Johnson and Margo Price along the way. He’ll join Chris Stapleton’s tour during the summer, too, with a trio of opening dates on Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul tossed in the mix.
