See Chris Stapleton’s Fiery ‘Living Long Like This’ at Waylon Tribute
The last of Waylon Jennings‘ chart-topping singles in the 1970s was one of his most rousing, “Ain’t Living Long Like This.” Chris Stapleton has taken to performing the song, written by Rodney Crowell, in his concerts and delivered a storming version of the cautionary tale during a tribute to Jennings in 2015. Stapleton’s performance is included on the new release Outlaw: Celebrating the Music of Waylon Jennings, out April 7th as a CD/DVD set.
Recorded in Austin, Texas, the all-star concert features versions of Jennings songs by his friends Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, along with renditions from current stars like Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, Eric Church and Jennings’ own son Shooter. “Ain’t Living Long Like This,” however, appears only as a DVD extra and will not be included when CMT airs the Outlaw special this weekend.
Stapleton, who debuted a new stomper of his own called “Second One to Know” at the ACM Awards last Sunday, just announced the title and track list for his new LP, From A Room: Volume 1. The Grammy-winning Kentucky native will release a second volume later this year.
Outlaw: Celebrating the Music of Waylon Jennings airs Friday night at 10:00 p.m./ET on CMT.
