Flashback: Beyonce, Britney Spears and Pink Rock a Roman Arena, Cover Queen
Over the years, Pepsi has had some iconic faces representing its brand. From Michael Jackson to Mary J. Blige, an assortment of music’s biggest stars have joined forces with the soda company. Since the early 2000s, the most famous have include Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and the pair of pop legends most famously united to cover Queen for one of Pepsi’s biggest ads of all time.
The 2004 commercial had a trio of pop’s biggest names facing off in a Roman arena as gladiators. Spears, Beyoncé and Pink had their game faces on as they threw down their weapons and decided that instead of fighting, they would sing a fierce rendition of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” for a confused Emperor Enrique Iglesias. In the stands, the surviving members of Queen sing along with the rest of the joyous, rollicking audience. In the end, Iglesias is thrown to a lion.
Spears had starred in her own Pepsi commercial where she sang and danced to the theme song “The Joy of Pepsi.” Beyoncé first appeared in a 2003 advertisement which featured her hit solo single “Crazy in Love” and most recently joined forces with the brand in a 2013 spot that had her facing off with her various eras as they appear in several mirrors surrounding her.
