Watch Zac Brown Band’s Powerful ‘My Old Man’ on ‘Fallon’
Zac Brown Band are serious about getting back to basics with their new record, Welcome Home. The first single off the record, “My Old Man,” is as personal as any the Grammy-winning Georgia band has released, and Wednesday night Zac Brown was even tearing up as he performed it on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The song, a tribute to the band members’ fathers and mentors, starts with Brown and his acoustic guitar in spotlight before the rest of the band joins to harmonize. After the pop and EDM detour of Zac Brown Band’s 2015 released Jekyll + Hyde, “My Old Man” is a clear indication of the band’s return to their acoustic roots, and it packs a mean emotional punch. Brown isn’t the only one getting emotional during the performance: “Oh my goodness, I’m a mess!” says Jimmy Fallon, as he greets the band at the end.
Welcome Home, Zac Brown Band’s fifth studio album, was produced by Dave Cobb and will be released May 12th via Warner Music Group, Elektra Records and the band’s own Southern Ground label. They head out on a 40-date summer tour that same day, starting with back-to-back gigs in Alpharetta, Georgia.
