Werner Herzog, Solange, Gucci Mane Lead RBMA NYC 2017
Werner Herzog, Solange and Gucci Mane will be among the artists contributing unique performances to this year’s Red Bull Music Academy NYC, with tributes to Prince and Alice Coltrane also on the bill. RBMA NYC 2017 takes place from April 29th to May 21st at various Big Apple venues.
For the fest, Solange will debut her multimedia dance performance An Ode To, which the singer created specifically for the Guggenheim showcase. Gucci Mane will team with his go-to producer Zaytoven for a piano show bar that will feature the rapper dropping bars accompanied by Zaytoven on a grand piano.
Herzog will deliver a lecture focusing on how music has influenced and informed the filmmaker’s oeuvre. Experimental composer Alvin Lucier will also host a lecture, as will songwriter and producer Teddy Riley, who will discuss the New Jack Swing sound he helped foster.
Other performances on the bill include a Prince tribute orchestrated by Detroit dance icon Moodymann, an Alice Coltrane tribute, a 10-hour ambient event featuring artists like Laraaju and Julianna Barwick and a stacked Sacred Bones Records 10th anniversary party with Jenny Hval, Zola Jesus and Moon Duo with special guest Jim Jarmusch.
