Chainsmokers Tap Florida Georgia Line for New Collaboration
Genre-busting country duo Florida Georgia Line are pushing the stylistic envelope even further with another crossover collaboration, teaming up with red-hot pop act the Chainsmokers for a brand new song.
The Grammy-winning electro-pop hitmakers announced their track with FGL on their Instagram, revealing that the new track, “Last Day Alive,” will be featured on their debut album, Memories … Do Not Open, due April 7th. The Chainsmokers’ album news comes on the heels of massive, multi-platinum hits like “Closer,” featuring Halsey, and “Don’t Let Me Down,” and will also include a song with Coldplay.
“They gave us a call and it kind of had to be done within 48 hours,” FGL’s Brian Kelley told Rolling Stone Country of working with the Chainsmokers. “So we spent all day and all night on this track and just put everything in it like we always do.”
Kelley says that he and bandmate Tyler Hubbard – who helped open the new American Currents exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum – were able to showcase their respective vocal strengths on the track, which he describes as filled with “good energy.” Kelley also shares that he’s hopeful the duos will play some shows together in the future.
“Last Day Alive” is the latest in a string of projects that fall outside the bounds of country for Florida Georgia Line. Their current single, “God, Your Mama and Me” features boy band icons Backstreet Boys, with whom they’ll perform select shows this summer. FGL is also teaming up with Nelly – who guested on a remix of their monster debut single “Cruise” – for their upcoming Smooth Tour. Those dates kick off June 2nd in Austin, Texas.
