Watch Frenzied First Trailer for Edgar Wright’s ‘Baby Driver’
Following its SXSW premiere, Edgar Wright unveiled the frenetic first trailer for Baby Driver, the director’s first film since 2013’s The World’s End.
The action flick stars Ansel Elgort as a titular getaway driver who becomes involved with a number of seedy characters and crooks played by Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Jon Bernthal, Eiza Gonzalez and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea.
After Elgort’s Baby declares he’s doing “one last job” before leaving the life of crime, his boss, played by Kevin Spacey, threatens Baby’s new girlfriend Lily James unless he continues to serve as driver on heists.
According to the film’s logline, “A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James), Baby sees a chance to ditch his criminal life and make a clean getaway. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.”
Wright wrote and directed Baby Driver, his first project since he ditched Ant-Man over creative differences with Marvel.
In addition to the action sequences and quirky editing, Baby Driver is also peppered by Wright’s keen comedic chops, as highlighted by a scene where the crooks are wearing Austin Powers masks instead of Halloween‘s Michael Myers masks, since one of them confuses the actor Mike Myers for the fictional serial killer.
On Saturday night, Sony Pictures also dropped its international trailer for the film, featuring different footage. Baby Driver, one of Rolling Stone‘s 50 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017, hits theaters August 11th.
