Hear Thurston Moore’s Dynamic New Rock Song ‘Smoke of Dreams’
Thurston Moore will release his fifth solo album, Rock n Roll Consciousness, on April 28th via Caroline International.
The former Sonic Youth guitarist teased the LP with a video for lead single “Smoke of Dreams,” which morphs from hazy indie-rock guitar textures to a churning post-punk attack. Moore conjures images of “smoking ghosts” drifting through New York City, echoed by the clip’s blurry shots of people rushing down busy sidewalks.
Moore, who self-produced his most recent LP, 2014’s The Best Day, recorded Rock n Roll Consciousness with pop producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Rihanna). The five-track album, recorded in London and mixed in Seattle, features Moore’s recent backing band: bassist Deb Googe (My Bloody Valentine), guitarist James Sedwards and drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth). Poet Radio Radieux wrote lyrics to all of the tracks, excluding “Smoke of Dreams.”
The Thurston Moore Group will tour throughout the year, including jaunts across the U.S., U.K., Europe and Asia. The quartet announced a brief run of North American dates, launching May 8th in Vancouver, British Columbia and concluding May 20th in Brooklyn.
Earlier in March, Moore released the sprawling guitar epic “Cease Fire,” which will not feature on the new album.
