Hear Trace Adkins Praise Military Service in New Song ‘Still a Soldier’
As he prepares to release his twelfth studio album Something’s Going On, Trace Adkins has shared a new song, “Still a Soldier,” and accompanying lyric video.
The patriotic song, written by Phil O’Donnell and Wade Kirby, chronicles the life of a United States veteran who still feels strongly connected to his time in the service though he is currently living as a civilian, watching the game after church and “cut[ting] the grass if it don’t rain.” The video’s backdrop – an American flag overlaid with images of helicopters and soldiers in combat – underscores the power of lyrics like, “He don’t wake up anymore when he hears thunder / Aw but even if he lives to be a hundred / He’ll still be a soldier.” Adkins’ support for the U.S. military is well-documented, having performed on more than 10 USO tours in addition to giving a moving portrait of sacrifice in his 2005 single “Arlington.”
Something’s Going On, the follow-up to Adkins’ 2013 album Love Will…, is out March 31st. It also features previous singles “Jesus and Jones” and “Lit,” along with his current release “Watered Down.” Adkins kicks off a run of tour dates in Clewiston, Florida on March 18th.
