Kim Kardashian: ‘Mentally Prepped’ For Rape, Death During Paris Robbery
Kim Kardashian West recounted the night she was robbed at gunpoint in her Paris apartment during last year’s Paris Fashion Week on Sunday’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The episode focused on before and after the incident, including footage of Kanye West abruptly ending his Governors Ball performance after hearing the news.
In a clip from the episode, Kardashian said that she was resting in her Paris hotel room when she heard loud footsteps approaching. Peeking out her door, she saw two men dressed as police officers grab the hotel’s concierge, who was holding a key to Kardashian’s room.
“What I’ve heard from talking to him afterward is, they said, you know, ‘Where’s the rapper’s wife? Let us up to her room!’ in French,” Kardashian said.
“I was like, ‘I have a split second in my mind to make this quick decision,'” she said, explaining the situation. “Am I going to run down the stairs and either be shot in the back? It makes me so upset to think about it. Either they’re going to shoot me in the back, or if I make it and they don’t, if the elevator does not open in time, or the stairs are locked, then like I’m fucked. There’s no way out.”
The robbers, using the concierge as an interpreter, then demanded Kardashian hand over her $4 million wedding ring from Kanye West; Kardashian would later tell police that $10 million in jewelry was stolen during the heist.
When the thieves threw Kardashian on the bed and began to duct-tape her, she told her family that she “mentally prepped myself” for the intruders to rape her, but that didn’t occur. Instead, she was picked up and placed in the bathtub while the thieves completed their robbery.
In January, sixteen suspects were detained in connection to the armed robbery, including Kardashian’s driver.
In a series of tweets Sunday, Kardashian explained why she opted to tell her side of the story on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
“Tonight’s episode is going to be very tough for me,” she explained. “However, I thought it was important to share this story through my eyes and not in an interview where my own words could be twisted. I have always shared so much & I’m not going to hold back when this was probably one of the most life changing experiences for me.”
Kardashian continued, “I took a tragic, horrific experience and did not let it diminish me, rather grew and evolved and allowed the experience to teach me.”
