Six-time Grammy nomineeBrandy Clark, for whom songwriting and storytelling go hand-in-hand, showcases her deft talent for imagery-rich songcraft in a new Audience Network concert special airing Friday, March 10th. In addition to a live performance of Clark originals, including “Love Can Go to Hell” and “Girl Next Door,” the Washington state native sits down with host Ted Stryker in Los Angeles for an in-depth interview discussing her “imperfect” songs, her musical beginnings and songwriting influences. (Watch an exclusive performance of Clark‘s heartbreaking ballad “Three Kids No Husband” above.)
One of the standout cuts on Big Day in a Small Town, Clark‘s Grammy-nominated second LP released last summer, “Three Kids No Husband” is the tale of a single mother indulging in a much-needed smoke break as she takes stock of her lot in life. It’s the kind of slice-of-Americana scene that populates many of her earnestly delivered tunes on her current album and its Grammy-nominated predecessor, 12 Stories.
“I feel like I am really good at envisioning a kitchen,” Clark tells Rolling Stone Country. “Both of my records take place in a kitchen. On Big Day, I also thought about just being able to envision the principal’s office in my high school.”
Other recent Audience Network concert specials have featured Garth Brooks, Hank Williams Jr., Martina McBride, Kelsea Ballerini, Brett Eldredge, Keith Urban, Cole Swindell and Dan + Shay.
Clark is currently in the midst of a U.S. tour and launches her co-headlining trek with Warner Brothers labelmate Charlie Worsham on April 6th. “Brandy Clark” airs March 10th at /PT on DIRECTV and U-verse (DIRECTV Ch 239/U-verse Ch 1114) and on DIRECTVNOW.
