Hear Jason Eady’s Contemplative New Song ‘Barabbas’
Country music has long been known for telling lesser known stories, celebrating the underdogs and underbellies in equal measure. Jason Eady takes a cue from that tradition on his new song “Barabbas,” a meditation on the little-discussed biblical figure who played an essential role in the Crucifixion story.
The plaintive song is performed from the perspective of Barabbas himself, a prisoner who was pardoned from crucifixion in place of Jesus. The first-person account details Barabbas’ later attempts to make sense of his life as “a pardoned man.” Hear it below.
The song comes from Eady’s forthcoming self-titled album, out April 21st. The Kevin Welch-produced album, Eady’s sixth overall, is the follow-up to 2014’s acclaimed Daylight/Dark. Rolling Stone Country premiered the album’s first single, the gentle “Why I Left Atlanta,” late last month.
