See Country Punk Jade Jackson’s Autobiographical ‘Finish Line’ Video
While many artists often reveal personal details about themselves through song lyrics, Jade Jackson has doubled down on self-disclosure with her picturesque new music video for “Finish Line.” The song appears on Jackson’s forthcoming album Gilded, produced by Social Distortion’s Mike Ness.
“Literally every detail in the video was directly lifted from my life,” says a statement from Jackson, who attributes the “100% autobiographical” inspiration idea to video director Andrew Van Baal. Shot on location in Jackson’s hometown of Santa Margarita, California, “Finish Line” frames Jackson in a variety of her real-world locales, including her parents’ restaurant and her neighbor’s garage where her band rehearses.
The video is also notable for how Jackson’s empowering chorus lyric – “Waking up for the first time is when you don’t stop running at the finish line” – is visually echoed in a few scenes of quick-shot sentiments scrawled on a bedroom wall. Eagle-eyed viewers will catch such affirmations as “What do you want?,” “Our dreams must be first,” “Jump into it,” “What makes you who you are?,” and more sprinkled between Jackson’s other slice-of-life scenes.
Gilded comes out May 19th on ANTI- Records. Jackson and her band are currently out on tour with Social Distortion.
