2017 Oscars: Where and How to Watch
On Sunday night, Jimmy Kimmel will make his debut as an Oscar host, following up Chris Rock’s scorching stint as Master of Ceremonies where he tackled the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. Back in September, Kimmel gave a taste of his abilities as an award show host when he helmed the Emmy Awards.
The 89th Academy Awards will air on February 26th at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. For those interested in catching the show’s typically legendary fashion, ABC will air a red carpet special an hour before the show kicks off. If you’re looking to kick off the festivities as early as possible, E! will begin broadcasting their Countdown to the Red Carpet at 1:30 p.m. EST, discussing the trends of this past award season as well as Oscar fashion history overall. E!’s Live From the Red Carpet will begin at 5:30 p.m. EST, hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic.
For those who want to find a way to watch beyond a traditional TV setup, the Oscars can be streamed online from ABC Go as well as the ABC app. However, the livestream is only accessible with a login from a cable provider. The ABC site will also offer a separate livestream called The Oscars: All Access that will show backstage interviews with nominees and presenters in lieu of the show stream.
La La Land leads this year’s nominations with 14 nods. For Best Picture, it’s up against Hidden Figures, Lion, Hacksaw Ridge, Fences, Manchester By the Sea, Arrival, Hell or High Water and Moonlight, one of La La Land‘s biggest contenders. The night will feature musical performances from the likes of Sting, Justin Timberlake, Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Legend.
