Joan Baez, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Indigo Girls Plot Four Voices Tour
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honoree Joan Baez will join Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls‘ Amy Ray and Emily Saliers on a limited summer tour as the supergroup Four Voices.
The 10-date trek opens June 3rd at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and includes stops in Raleigh, North Carolina, Charlottesville, Virginia, Chicago and Toronto before wrapping June 17th at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts. Tickets will go on sale the week of February 20th, with specific details available on the websites of the individual venues.
Four Voices first performed together at a 1991 benefit concert for Baez’s Humanitas organization. The folk legend initially invited Ray and Saliers to perform, and they suggested enlisting Carpenter as well. The following year, the quartet performed at an Earth Day concert in Boston as well as the Newport Folk Festival, while more recently they reunited at Baez’s 75th birthday concert at the Beacon Theatre where they performed the folk standard, “The Water is Wide.”
Individually, the members of Four Voices have been busy with various projects. Along with her 75th anniversary concert, Baez recently performed at the Women’s March and will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this April. Carpenter released her most recent album, The Things That We Are Made Of, last year, while the Indigo Girls spent much of 2016 on the road after putting out a new album, One Last Day, in 2015.
