Hear NY Gov. Cuomo’s Spotify Playlist Picks from Aerosmith to Tina Turner
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled a hard-rocking Spotify playlist on Wednesday. In honor of the streaming company’s U.S. headquarters relocating to 4 World Trade Center in New York City, Cuomo revealed what’s on his heavy rotation: Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga, Aerosmith, Tina Turner, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones highlight the mix. It’s dubbed “Excelsior Vol. 1.”
The playlist features numerous artists from New York (Reed, Simon & Garfunkel), songs about the city (Keys and Jay Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” Springsteen’s post-9/11 anthem “The Rising”) and tunes his daughters have shown him. Some of the newer selections include Alabama Shakes’ “Hold On,” a pair of Bruno Mars tunes and three appearances by Lady Gaga. (In 2015, Gaga and Cuomo co-wrote an op-ed for Billboard urging passage of the “Enough Is Enough” bill, which combats sexual assault on public college campuses.)
Other featured artists on “Excelsior Vol. 1” include Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, the Doors, Joe Jackson, Tony Bennett, Levon Helm, and of course the Ramones’ classic “Rockaway Beach.” According to Pitchfork, Spotify’s relocation in early 2018 will create over 1,000 new jobs and retain over 800.
Spotify previously recruited summer vacation playlists from both President Obama and Joe Biden, and the former president also crafted a workout mix.
