See ‘Trainspotting’ Crew Lust for Life Again in New ‘T2’ Trailer
Trainspotting‘s Rent Boy, Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie reunite in the latest trailer for Danny Boyle’s T2, the sequel to the cult 1996 film that picks up two decades after the original cult classic.
Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life,” the quasi-anthem for the original film, is also back to pace the new preview, premiering at Rolling Stone. The clip finds Ewan McGregor’s ex-addict Renton attempting to reconcile with Edinburgh buddies after ripping them off in the original film.
T2 has already opened in the United Kingdom, where the film was lauded for its kinetic energy and cynical look at nostalgia while retaining the original film’s unique, biting tone. The sequel hits U.S. theaters March 17th.
“Choose your future. Choose wishing you’d done it all differently. Choose life,” Renton says in voiceover, a nod to the 1996 film’s inner dialogue. The trailer augment’s the first tease of the new film, which implored viewers to “Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares.”
Although the sequel is based on author Irvine Welsh’s Porno, Boyle explained the title change in an interview with Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show.
“I always thought that if these characters were asked to do a sequel, they would agree reluctantly and say, ‘All right but you have got to call it T2 so that you can annoy James Cameron.’ Terminator 2 is known as ‘T2’ but actually not legally. We can call our film T2,” Boyle said.
“The reason Trainspotting is added after it is because everyone books online now and online things do take you to the James Cameron film, rather than our film, so we had to concede defeat to commerce eventually.”
