Watch Miguel, DJ Premier’s Romantic ‘2 Lovin U’ Video
Miguel and DJ Premier released a luminous video for the collaborative new song “2 Lovin U.” The duo perform in an empty warehouse while couples kiss in the shadows and Miguel wails over electric guitar.
Last month, the eclectic R&B singer and rap producer unveiled the funky cut, which they first teased in 2014. Miguel issued a grittier, self-produced version of the song, titled “damned,” as a bonus track on the deluxe version of his third LP, 2015’s Wildheart. That take, built on clamoring drums, offers a more electronic-flavored approach than the current version with Premier.
As Rap-Up reports, Premier recently told The Breakfast Club that Miguel impressed him with his hands-on studio work. “He just started playing these guitar licks and I just started tapping the drum live,” he said. “I didn’t even know Miguel could play guitar. I said, ‘That’s good. Let me take that.’ Programmed it. He sits at his desk, records, Pro-Tools it. I was like, ‘Wow.’ He’s standing up, screaming and all that. I’m watching how he does it. The song gets done, but it never got to the process where we could put it out through RCA.”
The producer told The Breakfast Club that he’s set to collaborate with Christina Aguilera on her next album. Last year, Miguel released a handful of singles, including “Come Through and Chill,” Black Lives Matter tribute “How Many” and his contribution to Netflix series The Get Down, “Cadillac,”
