See Jessi Colter’s Meditative ‘Psalm 23 The Lord Is My Shepherd’ Video
Earlier this year, Jessi Colter announced The Psalms, her first solo album of new material in over a decade. Now the famed outlaw country artist and widow of Waylon Jennings has shared a new video from that collection, “Psalm 23 The Lord Is My Shepherd.”
The clip features a smiling Colter seated at a piano, with guitarist Lenny Kaye at her side. Kaye, known for his work with Patti Smith, produced the album. He was a longtime friend of Jennings, and, in the liner notes to The Psalms, recalls watching Colter sing Psalms to herself over two decades ago.
“This may be the best-known poetry in the world,” Colter tells Rolling Stone Country. “Lenny Kaye and I planted the field with grape vines. We have harvested fine wine and drank freely. Working with Lenny is like moving with the wind, an invisible force of nature.”
Colter’s most recent album was 2006’s Out of the Ashes. In late 2016, she revealed plans to release a memoir, An Outlaw and a Lady: A Memoir of Music, Life with Waylon, and the Faith That Brought Me Home. That volume hits bookshelves on April 11th.
Colter has already shared one track from the album, “Psalm 136 Mercy and Loving Kindness.” The Psalms is out March 24th.
