Watch Hudson Mohawke Undergo Heart Surgery in New Valentine’s Day Mix
Scottish producer/DJ Hudson Mohawke unveiled his 10th annual Valentine’s Day Slow Jams mix.
The 45-minute set is available to download for free on SoundCloud and opens with a slightly sped-up but still syrupy version of the late Al Jarreau‘s 1984 track, “After All.” Among the other delightfully saccharine deep cuts featured on Slow Jams X are Tyrone Davis’ “In the Mood” and Mort Shuman’s “Get It Up Baby,” while Mohawke closes the mix with a double-shot of Twista’s “Give It Up” and DJ Rogers’ “Say You Love Me, One More Time.”
To promote the mix, Mohawke also released a graphic promo video featuring documentary footage of an open heart surgery and fake subtitles in which doctors bash his crate-digging skills. “Let’s be honest – it’s not even that deep,” one says. “These are just dollar bin records and, like, I think I’ve probably downloaded every one, and I swear he just repeats songs year to year.”
Last year, Mohawke participated in an array of projects, including Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo and Anohni’s Hopelessness (he’ll also appear on Anohni’s follow-up EP, Paradise, out March 17th). Mohawke also helmed the soundtrack for the video game, Watch Dogs 2.
