See Kalie Shorr’s Breezy Cover of Barenaked Ladies’ ‘Odds Are’
Before she had success with her own tune, the empowering anthem “Fight Like A Girl,” Portland, Maine-native Kalie Shorr found an audience on YouTube with her lively covers of songs first made famous by artists like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.
She returns to covers with her faithful rendition of Barenaked Ladies’ “Odds Are” for this Rolling Stone Country exclusive premiere.
On a balcony with city lights of Nashville shining behind her, Shorr accompanies herself on acoustic guitar on the track that reassures that despite all the calamities that could befall us – from being struck by lightning to getting hit by a train – chances are we’ll be just fine. The bouyant song originally appeared on the Canadian band’s 2013 album, Grinning Streak.
Shorr, named one of Rolling Stone Country‘s top new country artists in February, moved to Nashville when she was 18. The 22-year old, who has received airplay on SiriusXM, has been a constant presence around town since then, steadily building an audience, including performing at the weekly Song Suffragettes showcase.
The studio version of “Odds Are” appears on Shorr’s new EP, Slingshot, which was released March 3rd and includes “Fight Like A Girl,” “He’s Just Not That Into You” and two other songs co-written by Shorr.
