Marvel Reveals First Look Video for Epic ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
Filming for the Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War is officially underway, and Robert Downey Jr., who plays Iron Man in the series, premiered a first look video Friday at the epic production.
While earlier cast announcements revealed that nearly every superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would appear in Infinity War, the first look confirms the involvement of two more characters: Chris Pratt’s Star Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
“Day one of what promises to be a year of fun-filled lensing,” Downey Jr. said on January 23rd, the first day of filming, in the video.
“Avengers: Infinity War’ is the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe as started in May of 2008 with the release of Iron Man, and it is really an unprecedented culmination of a series of films, interlinked together,” producer Kevin Feige said in the video.
“We know they’re gonna face Thanos, we’ve been setting that up since Avengers. How do you that in a way that is unexpected, that pits the Avengers against somebody who is more powerful than anyone they’ve ever faced, and make them completely unprepared to face them?”
The preview also offers up a first look at Thanos’ infamous Infinity Gauntlet from the comics, and hints at the involvement of Benicio Del Toro’s seldom-seen the Collector via the video’s opening voiceover.
Downey Jr. also shared live video from the set Friday night on Facebook Live. “This movie’s gonna be so epic,” Downey Jr. says in the video that was filmed by Holland’s Peter Parker. Pratt, in full costume, also makes a cameo toward the end.
The first half of the two-film Infinity War is due out May 2018.
The Avengers: Infinity War preview arrives on the same day that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 achieved a rare perfect test screening score, the Hollywood Reporter wrote.
