See Brandy Clark’s Powerful ‘Love Can Go to Hell’ on ‘Today’
It was a big day on the small screen this morning for Brandy Clark, who made her Today Show debut with a stirring, stripped down performance of her Grammy-nominated song “Love Can Go to Hell.”
Joined on stage by a pianist, cellist and guitarist, Clark highlighted the ballad’s heartbreaking message with a simplified arrangement, letting her crystalline vocals and the emotional heft of the lyrics take center stage. Prior to her performance, Clark chatted with hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, Gifford exclaiming that Clark’s dream of becoming a renowned artist has now “become a reality.”
Clark wrote “Love Can Go to Hell” with Scott Stepakoff. It’s the second single off her critically acclaimed sophomore album Big Day in a Small Town, which took the number six spot on Rolling Stone Country‘s 40 Best Country Albums of 2016 list.
On February 12th, Clark will find out if she’s won either of her two Grammy nominations, including Best Country Solo Performance for “Love Can Go to Hell” and Best Country Album for Big Day in a Small Town. She recently graced the cover of the January 26th edition of the Nashville Scene, earning widespread praise from voters in the weekly magazine’s annual Country Music Critic’s Poll.
