Watch Regina Spektor’s Enchanting ‘Black and White’ Video
Regina Spektor breathes life back into Chicago’s famed, but long-closed Uptown Theater in the new video for “Black and White.”
Directed by Daniel Ryan, the dreamlike clip finds Spektor performing the mid-tempo ballad at a piano situated in the ornate lobby of the Theater. Through the doors behind Spektor, a lone dancer begins moving across the Uptown stage, makes her way up the empty aisles and wanders around the building before spotting Spektor. But before the dancer can descend the staircase she disappears.
“Black and White” appears on Spektor’s latest album, Remember Us to Life which arrived last September. The LP marks Spektor’s first since 2012’s, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, and in an interview with Rolling Stone she spoke about how that hiatus and new motherhood inspired her to write a slew of new songs.
“It was interesting because I didn’t really plan it,” she said. “I was a little bit holed up because I was pregnant for a while, and then I had the baby, so I was just more in my own world. As I was writing all the songs, the desire to kind of put older songs onto this particular record just kind of left, and all of a sudden, I just wanted all of these songs to be on it.”
Spektor will embark on an 18-date tour in support of Remember Us to Life March 5th in Montreal.
