Bad Brains Singer H.R. to Undergo Brain Surgery
H.R., lead singer of legendary hardcore-punk group Bad Brains, is set to undergo brain surgery on February 21st, according to Loudwire.
H.R. has been experiencing brutal, crippling headaches for years. “There were times when I was alone and didn’t know what would happen,” he told Rolling Stone in December.
Last March, the severity of H.R.’s pain caused his wife, Lori, to help set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help pay for a medical procedure. “The headaches have gotten progressively worse; in November, he began living with almost constant pain,” she wrote at the time. “The headaches come randomly, with no warning, at all hours of the day and night; but for him, they are much worse at night. The intensity of the nighttime headaches is so great that he yells, cries out, groans, and sobs – repeatedly, every few minutes, for most of the night. He can’t work. He has no quality of life.” The GoFundMe effort raised more than $16,000.
H.R. told Loudwire that he’s been attempting to combat the pain with natural remedies. “I’ve been dealing with spirulina, wheatgrass, goldenseal and Vitamin A, D and C,” he said. “I did experience some improvement with these.” But he still elected to move forward with an operation after he consulted a doctor. “[My wife] took me to the hospital so I would learn about what was going on in my head,” H.R. continued, “… and the doctor came to me, and he said, ‘we’re going to have a surgery.'”
In December, H.R. suggested that he was remaining upbeat in the face of his suffering. “I’m very thankful for what everybody has did for me,” he told Rolling Stone. “I’m looking forward to the future.”
