Watch Patriots Super Bowl 51 Comeback in Vintage ‘Tecmo Bowl’ Style
The odds of us getting another Super Bowl as exciting as the one we just witnessed are pretty slim. In addition to the New England Patriots needing to overcome the biggest deficit in Super Bowl history and an overtime period to defeat the Atlanta Falcons, a whopping 23 records were broken on Sunday night including the most passing yards from both teams, the most competitions and the most first downs.
Those are just the numbers, too. Julian Edelman’s catch, which drew comparisons to David Tyree’s unforgettable helmet catch from several NFL players, impressed Tom Brady so much that he called it “one of the greatest” he’s ever seen. Julio Jones also pulled off an incredible reception in the fourth quarter that would be getting a lot more attention if the Falcons didn’t let a 98.9 percent chance of winning the Super Bowl slip through their fingers.
Fortunately for us, even if we do never get another Super Bowl quite like it, we will forever have those moments – Edelman’s catch, the ridiculous comeback, an overtime period, you name it – in 8-bit form thanks to Kyle Mac, a videographer who has turned Tecmo Bowl into his personal playground on more than one occasion. Because, you know, giving sports the classic Nintendo treatment never gets old. Just look at what happens when you put Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather in the same ring in Punch-Out!!
Oh, and as a disclaimer, Falcons fans might want to stop watching at the 1:22 mark.
