Conor McGregor on Floyd Mayweather Fight: ‘This Is Happening’
Not only does Conor McGregor have his eyes on Floyd Mayweather and only Floyd Mayweather right now, he believes a fight between them could go down at the end of this year.
In a Q&A session that took place in front of 5,000 paying fans in England over the weekend, McGregor said his UFC career is currently on hold so he can pursue a fight with Mayweather. And to put the wheels in motion, McGregor intends on meeting up with Mayweather in Las Vegas to hammer out the details on what he believes could be a billion-dollar fight.
“Me and Floyd have got to get together and talk to figure it out, the same way him and Manny [Pacquiao] figured it out,” McGregor said. “Once we come to a set number that I’m happy with and he’s happy with, then we go to the customers, then we go to the promoters, the buyers, then we get it done. So that’s next. I’ll go to Vegas, we’ll figure the situation out and we’ll come to a dotted line and then we’re going. This is happening.”
McGregor also managed to throw some shade at Mayweather while he was on stage by saying his fist is bigger than Mayweather’s head and Mayweather is “a Malteser with eyeballs.” McGregor was in fine trash talking form. Just before the event, the UFC Lightweight champ took to Instagram to take shots at just about everyone, captioning his photo with, “Fuck the UFC. Fuck Floyd. Fuck boxing. Fuck the WWE. Fuck Hollywood. And fuck you too pay me.”
As for where Mayweather stands on all of this, he believes the fight with McGregor could happen. During an interview with Showtime before Leo Santa Cruz defeated Carl Frampton, Mayweather said this is the fight the fans want and “let’s give the fans what they want to see.” He didn’t, however, reveal whether or not he’d meet up with McGregor in Vegas to figure it out.
