Prince’s Revolution Plot Spring Tour
Prince‘s band the Revolution will return to the stage this spring for a handful of live shows in April.
The four-date trip begins April 23rd at the Metro in Chicago and includes stops in Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia. Tickets go on sale February 10th.
The Revolution came together over several years in the late Seventies and early Eighties. The group was credited on three Prince studio albums, Purple Rain, Around the World In a Day and Parade, while members also played on 1999.
The Purple Rain-era lineup – guitarist Wendy Melvoin, bassist Brownmark (Mark Brown), drummer Bobby Z (Robert Rivkin) and keyboardists Matt Fink and Lisa Coleman – reunited for a handful of tribute shows in Minneapolis last fall following Prince’s death. The group is also scheduled to perform at Celebration 2017, a three-day festival at Paisley Park April 20th through 23rd.
Prior to those Minneapolis tribute concerts, the Revolution spoke with Rolling Stone about their bittersweet reunion and the difficulty of preparing for the gigs without Prince. “It was really intense,” said Coleman. “Difficult. The music was mercurial. Like, we couldn’t quite grab it. I mean, we were trained to look at Prince for cues, and even if he’s wrong, he’s right. We were looking into a space and then looking at each other going, ‘What is this?'”
