Watch Run the Jewels, Zack de la Rocha’s Epic Protest Show
Run the Jewels brought an explosive, politically charged atmosphere to their pre-inaugration show Thursday in Washington D.C., recruiting former Rage Against the Machine rocker Zack de la Rocha to perform collaborative tracks “Kill Your Masters” and “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck).”
“I wouldn’t miss it for a fucking minute to be here with my brothers and all of you right now in this fucking time,” de la Rocha told the crowd before launching into the heart-racing bounce of “Close Your Eyes.” The vocalist traded rhymes with Killer Mike and El-P on both tracks, which feature on the duo’s recently released third LP, Run the Jewels 3.
During the show, which was re-scheduled from an earlier, canceled date on their “Run the World” tour, Mike rallied the audience with an impassioned speech about staying resilient in Donald Trump’s America, Pitchfork reports. “No matter who won, the day after tomorrow, this is our motherfucking country,” he told the crowd. “I don’t give a fuck who is president. This is our country. And what we will keep this republic going on is truth, honesty, integrity, love, and democracy.”
