Watch Rock Supergroup Gone Is Gone Make Pizza in Williamsburg
Before touring the world as the hard rock supergroup Gone Is Gone, musicians Troy Sanders (from Mastodon), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age) and composer Mike Zarin came from humble beginnings: working in a pizzeria.
“It’s coming full circle,” Sanders said during Rolling Stone‘s recent Facebook Live, where three Gone Is Gone members (minus Tony Hajjar from At The Drive-In) relived their adolescence by making pies at Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s Two Boots Pizza.
“We are going to tour when stars align. We love playing together,” said Zarin, while working on his pie. “We also love our other things that we do and fitting everything we love into the calendar year sometimes is challenging.” Van Leeuwen added that lining up different band schedules makes playing together a rare event.
However, Gone Is Gone always (try) to make time for pizza, their shared passion. Sanders decorated his pie like a self-portrait and Van Leeuwen added black olives to his in reference to his label Black Dune Records. But in the end, Zarin was unanimously considered “Employee of the Day” for making an unbeatable slice.
