Watch Dan + Shay’s Intense ‘How Not To’ Video
Country duo Dan + Shay play a mostly supporting role in the intense video for “How Not To,” which was released yesterday. Taken from their album Obsessed, the song’s depiction of grief following a breakup is given some extra heft through the struggles of the video’s characters.
The clip, directed by Patrick Tracy, opens on a recovery meeting for alcoholics, where Sophie (Katie Stevens) is sharing for the first time and group member Noah (Pierson Fodé) is listening. In their separate timelines, they’re on a course for self-destruction: Sophie drinks vodka on the job and destroys furnishings at home, while Noah – who is connected to Dan + Shay – wakes to screaming headaches and has escalating bouts of violence. But in a final timeline, Noah and Sophie appear together, helping one another through the darkest moments of their addiction. Dan + Shay, shown mostly in performance scenes, become part of the narrative again at the video’s conclusion, when Sophie and Noah arrive at a party to celebrate their sobriety.
Obsessed was released in June 2016 and includes the Number One hit “From the Ground Up.” Dan + Shay will resume their headlining Obsessed Tour on February 9th in Rosemont, Illinois.
