Watch Jimmy Fallon’s Hilarious ‘La La Land’ Golden Globes 2017 Opening
Jimmy Fallon parodied the expansively choreographed opening scene from acclaimed musical La La Land to kick off the 2017 Golden Globes. Stuck in daunting red carpet limousine traffic, the Globes/Tonight Show host sang, danced and mingled with a parade of A-list nominees, including Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, John Travolta and Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek.
The cast of Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things were the scene-stealers: Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) unleashed a visceral rap, backed by her kid cast mates, and Shannon Purser (Barb) arose from a pool to prove she’s “still alive.”
The tone shifted when Fallon hit the piano to perform “Room Full of Stars,” a parody of the melancholy La La Land tune “City of Stars,” that featured guest spots from Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake.
After that frenzied opening, Fallon proved cool under pressure with his opening monologue. After his teleprompter malfunctioned seconds into the production, the comedian begged to “cut to Justin Timberlake” and offered to pull out some impressions to kill time.” Already you have your Golden Globes moment,” he cracked.
After a swift recovery, Fallon joked about Ryan Gosling’s role in La La Land as a jazz purist (“Don’t Google Ryan Gosling Pianist.’ Just trust me: It’s an HR nightmare”) and blasted Trump by wondering would’ve happened had King Joffrey had lived on Game of Thrones (“Well, in 12 days, we’re gonna find out”).
