Watch Kings of Leon Invoke Epic ‘Reverend’ on ‘Fallon’
Kings of Leon unleashed a bombastic rendition of “Reverend” on The Tonight Show Wednesday.
The Followills marched through the headbanger with proper anthemic poise, layering an array of sparkling guitar riffs on top of a barrage of power chords while the rhythm section maintained a steady wallop and Caleb Followill belted the track with plenty of grit.
“Reverend” appears on Kings of Leon‘s latest album, Walls, which arrived last October. The band has been on the road in support of the LP this month and have a handful of dates left before wrapping January 28th in Los Angeles. A short European trek will follow.
Walls follows 2013’s Mechanical Bull and notably found Kings of Leon working with a new producer, Markus Dravs. In an interview with Rolling Stone, drummer Nathan Followill recalled Dravs’ unorthodox and sometimes exasperating recording methods: “We would run through the song and play it three times and he’d be like, ‘Uh, yeah, you know – let’s run it a few more times. You still don’t have it nailed down.’ So we would do it a few more times and he’d be like, ‘You all still don’t have it nailed down. Let’s go through it a few more times.’ So we’d do it three or four more times, and then he’d be like, ‘Uh, we’re keeping the first one. I was trying to see if I could get you guys to beat it, but obviously we’re not going to.'”
