Watch 2 Chainz, Quavo Channel Flapper Era in ‘Good Drank’ Video
In the new video for “Good Drank,” 2 Chainz plays up Prohibition era flair, from old cars to retro suspenders. But the song, which appeared last October on the rapper’s Hibachi for Lunch mixtape, has a modern beat (by Kanye West associate Mike Dean).
Director Howard Ross filmed the video entirely in black and white. The only objects that escape the color restrictions are the light purple bottles of liquid that give the track its title. Similarly, all the rappers and extras showed up on set in period-specific stye, except for one: Gucci Mane wears a t-shirt, seemingly oblivious to the 1920s evocations around him.
The “Good Drank” beat is lean and scraggly – Dean circles a few piano notes over a drum tattoo and leave these three distinctive rappers plenty of room to maneuver. Quavo handles the hook, showing once again that he’s a highly effective crooner on other MCs’ tracks. He added gumminess to Young Thug and Travis Scott’s “Pick Up the Phone” last year and PnB Rock’s “Playa No More” more recently.
2 Chainz will release his new album, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, in April.
