Drake Talks Return to Acting, ‘More Life’ Playlist Project
Drake is plotting a return to his acting roots. On Thursday, he revealed he hopes to focus on that side of his career while being interviewed for the Cal Cast podcast, which is hosted by University of Kentucky men’s basketball head coach John Calipari.
Drake discussed a wide range of topics during the interview, including music, sports and a return to acting.
“Acting is another thing that I just can’t wait to really dive into,” the rapper said. “I think after I release More Life, which is this playlist I’m working on, and finish this tour, I think I’m going to really start to position myself in the acting world and, hopefully, take some great roles.”
Drake’s first major career foray was his role as Jimmy Brooks on the TV show Degrassi. He’s also showed off his acting chops several times on Saturday Night Live.
During the podcast he also revealed aspirations to be a late-night TV host. “I hope to get there one day where I put on amazing suits every night,” he said. “Just put on Tom Ford every night, sit with a glass of wine, and laugh with people that I’ve spent years with in the business, or friends of mine, and give people something to watch every night that makes them feel good and laugh.”
As for his near-future plans, his More Life playlist is a collaboration with Apple Music and will serve to bridge the gap between his major releases. While he said it’s not an album, he explained that it is “a body of work that I’m creating.” He said he’s curating More Life “to keep people excited, give people new music, let them know that I’m still hungry.” He added that he’s doing this project and continues with music because he wants to be “remembered as a forward thinker” and “as an emotion-evoking artist.”
