Hear Sam Hunt’s Breezy New Song ‘Body Like a Back Road’
It may be the first day of February, but Sam Hunt just released a new song that’s pure summer. “Body Like a Back Road” is the first single from Hunt’s as-yet untitled follow-up to Montevallo, and it’s officially available on streaming and digital download services today.
A laid-back, breezy track about knowing a longtime flame’s body “like the back of [his] hand,” “Body Like a Back Road” is Hunt’s most poppy offering to date. Warm rhythm guitar, a hip-hop inspired drum track and layered harmony vocals make for an infectious earworm worthy of a trip down the back road with the windows down and the stereo cranked. Listen below.
According to a recent interview with Nash Country Daily, Hunt and co-writers Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Zach Crowell wrote the song in the wake of Hunt’s engagement to Hannah Lee Fowler. Hunt previewed the song on Instagram last week.
At the beginning of the year, Hunt shared another new song, “Drinkin’ Too Much,” which plainly detailed his painful split from Fowler. A few days after the song’s release, the pair announced their engagement.
Hunt has been tight-lipped about a follow-up to 2014’s Montevallo, but all signs point to a 2017 release. His other 2017 plans include headlining the Rock the South Festival this summer and hitting the road with Maren Morris, Chris Janson and Ryan Follese on the 30-city 15 in a 30 Tour beginning June 1st.
