Daft Punk, the Weeknd, Dave Grohl Announce 2017 Grammy Performances
UPDATE 2: Grammy organizers have announced that Dave Grohl will not be performing with A Tribe Called Quest and Anderson .Paak. “Earlier this week, we announced Dave Grohl would be performing with Anderson .Paak and A Tribe Called Quest prior to confirming all participants,” organizers said in a statement, via Billboard.
“Dave Grohl will not be part of this performance. Unfortunately, our announcement was made prematurely. On behalf of The Recording Academy and AEG Ehrlich Productions, we sincerely apologize to all parties involved for our error.” It is unclear if Grohl will be performing separately or not. A rep for The Recording Academy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
UPDATE: Sturgill Simpson, Chance the Rapper and Gary Clark Jr. have been added as performers to this year’s Grammys, according to the Washington Post. Little Big Town and soul singer William Bell will also perform.
Two major performances at the 2017 Grammy Awards were announced Tuesday: Daft Punk and the Weeknd will perform together at the ceremony. In addition, Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl will take the stage with A Tribe Called Quest and Anderson .Paak, Pitchfork reports.
The Weeknd collaborated with the French duo on two songs from his new album, Starboy, “I Feel It Coming” and the chart-topping title track. The Weeknd is nominated for one Grammy this year for his work on Beyoncé’s Lemonade as Starboy was released after the consideration deadline. Daft Punk are not up for any awards.
Daft Punk have not performed live since their last Grammy appearance in 2014. That year, they racked up a slew of trophies for Random Access Memories and teamed with Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams and Chic’s Nile Rodgers for a medley of “Get Lucky,” “Harder, Better, Faster Stronger,” Chic’s “Le Freak” and Wonder’s “Another Star.”
The second all-star medley with Grohl, A Tribe Called Quest and Anderson .Paak includes a bevy of nominations. Paak is up for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album for Malibu. The musician also appeared on Tribe’s “Movin Backwards” from their 2016 album, We Got It From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service (also released after this year’s Grammy consideration deadline).
The Grammys will broadcast live Sunday, February 12th on CBS. Other performers include Adele, Bruno Mars, Metallica, John Legend, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and a collaboration between Alicia Keys and Maren Morris. The Late Late Show‘s James Corden will host.
