Dana White Says Ronda Rousey’s UFC Career ‘Probably Done’
Even though UFC president Dana White admitted Ronda Rousey’s career was winding down three months ago, he wasn’t entirely sure what the future held for her following her loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. When asked about it, White said Rousey might want to fight again – possibly against her long-time rival Cris “Cyborg” Justino? – but we’ll “see what happens.”
What ended up happening was Rousey lost again, and now White no longer thinks she intends on stepping back into the Octagon. While on the UFC Unfiltered podcast this week, White mentioned Rousey has some plans for herself which might include moving to a desolate place to “do her thing.” White also said Rousey has made a lifetime’s worth of money and credited her for putting female fighting on the map.
“Her spirits are good and she’s doing her own thing,” White said. “In the conversation I had with her, if I had to say right here, right now – and again, I don’t like saying right here, right now because it’s up to her and it’s her thing – but I wouldn’t say she fights again. I think she’s probably done. I think she’s going to ride off in the sunset and start living her life outside of fighting.”
Rousey has kept a low profile since her loss to Nunes, but she did make the trip to Standing Rock to bring supplies such as fresh fruit, tents and wood-burning stoves to protesters. She has also criticised some of Donald Trump’s new policies on Facebook and Instagram, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who knows how she feels about him.
