Donald Glover Scores FX Productions Development Deal
Fresh off a pair of Golden Globes wins for his Atlanta television series, Donald Glover has signed an exclusive deal with FX Productions, the studio behind his wildly popular comedy show.
As Deadline reports, Glover will develop new projects for FX Networks as well as for other networks and streaming services. The new deal won’t impact his many Atlanta roles: he will continue to write, direct, executive produce and star in the series.
“Donald is a remarkable artist, effortlessly shifting from actor to writer, producer, director and musician to create one amazing project after another,” Nick Grad, president of original programming, FX Networks and FX Prods said, via Deadline. “Atlanta was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as its honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city. We’re proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television.”
FX also announced on Thursday that Season Two of Atlanta will be delayed until 2018 due to Glover’s busy production schedule, which includes his previously announced stint as Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming Han Solo Star Wars film.
Atlanta, which bowed at No. 1 on Rolling Stone‘s “20 Best TV Shows of 2016,” won best comedy series and Glover was named best actor in a comedy series during the Golden Globes Awards ceremony last Sunday.
Last month, Glover released Awaken, My Love!, his third studio album under his Childish Gambino moniker.
